Figurative Typography & Genomism

"I build images using letters. Language becomes matter, identity, and form."
A unique approach to contemporary art where letters are not used as words, but as generative elements — a visual DNA from which bodies and faces emerge.
This is Genomism.

How CHriZ Creates Art Using Letters

From language to form. From chaos to presence.

1. Before the Image

Every work begins before the image exists. There is no sketch in the traditional sense, no predefined figure. The process starts with the act of writing — letters repeated, layered, and accumulated without forming readable words. This phase is instinctive, almost meditative. At this stage, there is no image: only potential.

2. Accumulation & Density

Letters begin to overlap, losing their function as language and becoming physical matter. Layer after layer, repetition becomes structure, density becomes tension, chaos becomes a system. Time is embedded into the work through gesture.

3. The Emergence of the Image

At a certain point, something appears — not because it was planned, but because the structure allows it. The image does not come from drawing; it comes from recognition. Faces, bodies, presences surface from textual density like an invisible code.

4. Surface as Territory

The surface is constructed like a physical territory. Textures emerge, light interacts with depth, and the artwork changes depending on the viewer's position. This material dimension must be experienced in person.

5. Distance and Perception

The work exists in two simultaneous states: from a distance, a coherent image; up close, a fragmented system of letters. It reflects how we navigate between chaos and order, searching for meaning.

6. Time as a Hidden Layer

Each work contains time as a material condition: duration of process, repetition of gesture, accumulation of layers. Time is what transforms letters into living presence.

About CHriZ

CHriZ was born in 1970 and, since childhood, breathed in the scent of ink, watching with curious eyes his father's skilled work, enchanted by the magic of typography. His hands touched the wood of frames, the lead letters took shape under his fingers, while inside him grew the awareness that the written word was much more than a simple sign: it is expression, identity, and communicative power.

Yet CHriZ felt the need to go beyond the traditional use of typographic letters: he wished to explore their boundaries, to transform them into images.

Ten years ago, he began his artistic experimentation, which found its first complete expression in his debut collection, WORDS – Invisible Codes: a profound fusion of word and figuration, matter and imagination.

In 2025, CHriZ embarked on a major international exhibition path: from World Art Dubai to the Nicoleta Gallery in Berlin, Espacio Gallery and Arrival Gallery in London, Volterra Art Week in Italy, and Parc André Citroën in Paris. In 2026, he held a landmark solo exhibition at Galleria SanGiorgio Arte in Bari.
